Ballroom

Post uit Hessdalen

"How can we break free from the oppressive system of monotonous jobs?

What begins as a bleak, Kafkaesque nightmare transforms in Ballroom, a performance by the circus company Post uit Hessdalen, into a magical, hopeful dream reminiscent of the surreal worlds of René Magritte." - Jasper Delva, pzazz

Somewhere Someone got the job of putting the same balls in the same bin over and over again. Someone does it day after day, year after year, and no one really knows why. Hoping that the walls don’t come down on Someone, Someone starts throwing at them. So Someone makes the balls travel longer and longer courses through space, sometimes gracefully and deceptively simple, sometimes powerful and complex. To end – if all goes well – neatly in the bin.

Only everything doesn’t always go right. And how much ‘not well’ can Someone take?

As the balls become a ballast, Someone Somewhere tries to unravel a new dimension in space and time – or is it in the head – to escape the colourless monotony. And when that succeeds, something that could be called pure magic emerges.

For Ballroom, you take a place in a converted truck. Inside, visual artist Lodewijk Heylen made a scenery out of concrete, in which juggler Stijn Grupping creates an incredible dance of bouncing balls thanks to a lot of practice and a bit of magic. Accompanied by the sounds composed by musicians Jochem Baelus and Frederik Meulyzer, he takes you on a wordless trip.
